Whom we work for

Although breastfeeding is widely practiced in Bangladesh, the percentages of early and exclusive breastfeeding for six-months are dismally low. This is primarily due to the very low female literacy rate in the rural areas and rampant myths and misconceptions. BBF is the only organization in Bangladesh which is working for last 20years for Protecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding and the best possible complementary feeding for infants and young children is the collective campaign purpose of the world wide breastfeeding movement. It is prime organization for breast feeding campaign. Due to fund constraints, currently it is unable to continue this campaigning from door to door. By using the previous experience and utilizing it’s expertise BBF will test the extent of the compliance of policy guideline on Health education campaign to promote breastfeeding in Bangladesh. It will create an environment enabling stakeholders, key persons of the society and families and other caregivers in all circumstances and implement informed choices to promote breastfeeding and thus will reduce infant mortality and increase the awareness about breastfeeding. This opportunity will help to understand the scope and obstacles for health education campaign to promote breastfeeding against cultural barriers. As breastfeeding is a prior area to improve the health system, GOB has taken lots of plan & activities through National Nutrition Program. Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh should grant this application because as a prime organization, BBF is only carrying out a number of activities regarding this in Bangladesh. It will help to find the feasible strategy for promoting breastfeeding, which will help to achieve MDG-1 and 4,5 in Bangladesh.

Frontline health and child development functionaries will be identified as an important target group for capacity building to carry out effective inter-personal communication with mothers as well as at house-hold and community level in the identified outreach areas. Capacity building will be done through a cascade mode of training, facilitated by BBF across the areas.
